One Fastener, Seven Industries: A Cross-Industry Journey

Executive Summary

To most people a screw is the least remarkable industrial part, yet the trade calls fasteners the rice of industry. In humanoid robot joints, AI server racks and EV battery packs, what decides whether an assembly stays tight and how long it lasts is usually a part measured in millimetres.

Introduction

To most people a screw is the least remarkable part in an industrial product. Yet the trade has a saying: fasteners are the rice of industry. Inside the joints of a humanoid robot, the racks of an AI server, the battery pack of an electric car, what actually decides whether an assembly stays tight and how long it lasts is usually a part measured in millimetres.

The 15-85 Rule Few People Know About

Even fewer people know an industry rule: the 15-85 rule. The visible purchase price of a fastener is only 15% of its lifecycle cost; the other 85% hides in design and selection, assembly efficiency, rework, logistics and warehousing, and after-sales. Choose the wrong screw and the price you pay can be the takt time of an entire line. A small screw was never a small business; it is a large exercise in lowest total cost.

This article answers one question: how can a single fastening technology system solve seven exam papers that look completely different from one another?

1. New energy vehicles: lightweighting and high reliability on two fronts Every kilogram removed from an electric car buys range. Cold-forged 7-series high-strength aluminium alloy bolts, at about 600 MPa, replace steel bolts, and paired with 6061 aluminium sleeves they stop weight saving and strength from being a trade-off. Battery packs and electronic control systems then test locking and sealing: structural locking and adhesive sealing together hold the joint through vibration and water immersion. All of it rests on a systematic delivery capability embedded in the automotive supply chain since IATF16949 certification in 2013.

2. Light alloy die casting: hard engineering on a soft substrate Aluminium and magnesium die castings look good and weigh little, but to a thread they are soft ground. Light alloy thread reinforcement brings the connection strength of a cast threaded hole to grade 8 and even above grade 12. A magnesium part meeting a steel bolt invites galvanic corrosion, and a high-strength aluminium bolt with an isolating coating cuts the corrosion off at the source. Pull-in, press-in and standard sealing plugs close process holes to near 100% sealing and IP68 protection. Trilobular self-tapping screws form the thread directly in a plain hole, with no tapping and a fast cycle.

3. Embodied Intelligence: Joints Made Small, Stable and Maintenance-Free

3. Embodied intelligence: joints made small, stable and maintenance-free Every joint in a humanoid robot is a precision stack of motor, reducer and sensor. It calls for micro precision fasteners at M0.5 to M2, high-strength locking screws, and skeleton-level parts such as shoulder screws and rod-end spherical bearings: high precision and a long, maintenance-free life together. The M1 to M4 high-strength maintenance-free joint connection is still under development, aimed exactly at robot joints, coreless motors and dexterous hands, the most demanding locations of all.

4. HPC AI servers: compute at full tilt, connections that stay cool Power density in AI servers keeps climbing, making heat dissipation and vibration resistance the two issues inside the rack. For PCB applications we supply fasteners suited to SMT reflow, riveting solutions give efficient assembly of chassis sheet metal, and UQD liquid-cooling quick couplings are the key part of the liquid-cooling era: fast connect and disconnect, reliable sealing, not a drop spilled across hundreds or thousands of service operations.

5. Industrial electronics: interference, environment and speed EMS contract manufacturing runs on many variants and fast changeovers. PCB fasteners must be compatible with reflow, riveting must balance efficiency and strength, light alloy thread reinforcement keeps the grade 8 or even grade 12 benchmark, and the screw range covers corrosion and weather resistance from locking to surface treatment, helping contractors hold yield and takt through frequent line changes.

6. Consumer electronics: surface finish on a part smaller than a grain of rice Fasteners in phones, earbuds and wearables are measured in tenths of a millimetre, yet they must lock structurally (a press-fit nylon locking design, for instance), seat reliably and leave no visible trace on the exterior. The hidden threshold in this segment is high surface quality: strip a flagship phone and you will not find a scratched screw, and that rests on long accumulation in miniaturisation and surface treatment.

7. Low-Altitude Economy: Weight to Aluminium, Safety to Standards

7. Low-altitude economy: weight to aluminium, safety to standards Drones and eVTOL aircraft are ruthless about weight and use composite airframes heavily, and composites cannot simply be drilled and loaded, so dedicated connection solutions balance bonding against riveting. Locking washers resist continuous vibration, and lightweight high-strength screw products withstand high and low temperatures, rain and mist. In the air no screw failure is acceptable, which is why this industry depends most on standards and testing.

8. The logic behind one set of answers Why can one company answer the questions of seven industries at the same time? Taken apart, the underlying capabilities are only a few:

· Process depth: cold heading covers M0.6 to M27, and M0.5 at the micro end, replacing machining with cold heading for scale cost reduction (about 20% expected on like-for-like substitution);

· Material connection: dedicated connection solutions for engineering plastics, magnesium and aluminium alloys, PCB and sheet metal, rather than one screw for everything;

Scale and Delivery: Two Manufacturing Bases, About 360 Employees

· Scale and delivery: two manufacturing bases, about 360 employees, monthly output of about 650 million pieces, serving more than 100 customers worldwide;

· System credentials: five management system certifications, ISO9001, IATF16949, ISO14001, ISO45001 and IECQ QC 080000, and 26 valid patents;

· Technical service moved upstream: six services covering training, design consulting, testing, tear-down analysis and continuous process optimisation, with engineering samples delivered in as little as one day, because the earlier the technology engages, the more visible its effect on total cost.

Conclusion From electric cars to humanoid robots, from AI servers to low-altitude aircraft, the industrial narrative keeps changing, but the underlying arithmetic, make the connection more reliable and total cost lower, never has. The value of a good screw is not how noticeable it is, but that across the whole life of the machine you never have to think about it.
